Everyone,

I have searched and searched and I really hate to ask but I will for what I am sure the thousandth time..... I just cannot keep a battery charged on my tractor. I have a 7127 GM alternator with the P1 and P2 connectors. How in the heck do I wire the thing...no matter what I do, I cannot keep a charge. One wire, three wire, internal regulator, external regulator, exciter, diodes, idiot lights.....HELP!!! I do have the existing pully that came with the alternator (pretty small) so maybe that is the problem.

I am using an universal ignition switch w/ ACC terminal if that makes any difference...12V coil, amp meter on dash

#2 to charge stud, #1 to coil side of ignition thru a marker lamp, or a diode, if using a diode, place marked end of diode toward alternator.. a radio shack 1n5408 diode or any 1a.50piv diode will work.. though a 3a/200piv will be better.

One problem you have "wrong pulley" is were i would start,,, alts do like to spin and keep up with the engine RPM fer they will werk,,, alts when put'n out do load the belt rite hard,,, if you can take a finger and push the fan on the alt (engine off of course) the belt is 2 loose,,, either way the wrong pulley will come back to haunt ya

Hobo,

I will start with the pulley...5/8" 3" OD? Correct (I believe that's what I saw someplace)? Let me know please. There is an alt/starter shop near the house.

I feel better already!!

2.5 will spin it a little faster than 3.0
5/8 was the more significant part.
