Ok bill, on an N tractor when you push in the clutch, the PTO, and the hydro pump all stop.

On later Ford tractors, the hydro pump was remounted to run off of the flywheel, live hydro, anytime the engine is running.

Also the clutch was made into a 2 stage deal, where you press the clutch down half way, and it disenguages the transmission, but the PTO is still turning, press the clutch down the rest of the way, and the PTO stops too, Live PTO.

Taking it one step further, "independent" PTO has it's own clutch. The regular clutch has no effect on it at all.
