I'm back again :) I think the 3 pt hitch thing is resolved with some weight on the hitch. I did some additional tests that point that way but I can't 100% confirm because I'm missing a top link($20) and the starter is off.
Found at least one of the problems with my charging system - the spring holding one of the brushes is broken...

None of the kits I'm finding here at YT or elsewhere include anything but the brushes/terminals and bushings. Where do I find them?
On another issue: I'm not confident that the push rods that work all the carb/governor functions are working precisely. The springs that make the caps "spring loaded" aren't doing their job.
I've got a spring assortment from HF - should I indulge? Who sells the "right" replacement stuff?

Either find you a local shop that will rebuild, and guarantee your genny for 30 days, or go to a Chevy alternator.

You CAN have them (Chevy alternators) special built for 6v positive ground, I know, I had me one made for me nearly 25 years ago.

Or you can make the full 12 volt jump.

Your local genny/alternator shop should be one of the folks to make friends with.

Machine shop folk friends are an asset also.
