Re my '48 8N: I decided before attempting trouble-shooting to put it back together again with cleaned-up rotor, condenser, and cap contacts plus the new re-checked points. Followed JMOR's picture; made sure pigtail in the convex screw @ condenser lead as I assembled. Followed advice re tang offset & no problem installing distributor, cap & coil as a unit. Think problem was as most thought--incorrect assembly or, possibly, the heavy carbon build-up on the rotor's steel contact that touches inside center of cap. (Last time I did the points was 10 yrs. ago.) And guess what? Bonus, the miss on acceleration is gone.
Many thanks to you all for helping me. I'm saving replies as part of a tune-up file. You folks gave hands-on info. more clearly than the Manual. Agree w/Bruce (VA)'s comment on JMOR's pictures, etc. I'll add that it all should be in the Archives. Angelo

Happy that you are up & running. Glad to be of some usefulness. As for the pictures, etc. , they are now in the public domain for any & all to copy, fwd, use as they might wish. No doubt, some will notice that I used other's pictures freely.

Congratulations! And, tnx for the follow-up. The pic's by JMOR are keepers, that's for sure. And, your success confirms my belief that the majority of frontmount problems are due to the mis-alignment of parts & wires.
