2N won't start

I posted a couple of weeks ago about not being able to start my 8N. I’m finally back to working on the tractor, but I still have the problem, even after trying the suggestions that were offered. As a reminder, I've replaced the cutout, ignition toggle, push button, but nothing has helped. Battery is OK. Here’s my status today:
It’s no longer an 8N, I now own a 2N (Long story, but I thought it was 8, it’s really a 2N, with the correct 2N 6V wiring diagram).
Following the advice offered after my previous post, I replaced battery cable and strap, cleaned all connections, etc., as these seemed to be the most common problems mentioned. Still nothing when I push the button. I tried to jump it from my truck, and it does turn over, but can’t get it to start. This tractor ran fine when I had it going 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I’ve never had any trouble with it when I get it started. This makes me think it is not plugs, distributor, etc., but I don’t know why it won’t start. One other thing to mention: first time I tried to jump it, I got dead silence. Doing a little independent thinking, I took off the cable that runs from pushbutton to starter, tried it again, and it cranked. It didn’t start, but at least the starter cranked.
Now I’m looking for more suggestions:
1. Anything I should be doing differently when I jump it? 2. Why would the starter not crank when connected to the push button? (if you saw my previous post, I’ve replaced the push button, cutout and ignition switch, so I assume those are all good). 3. What should I try next? New wiring harness? I'm looking for any ideas.

The above comments are correct. Make sure you have a POSITIVE ground, and when ya hit the starter with the jumper cables, its with the POSITIVE CABLE (no juice,no spin). If the tractor is in neutral and the key is on (and you do you have the battery in the tractor charged AND hooked up? ((positive ground)), you should get sparks. If not, I would check the points.

Down by (in front) of the gear shift there is the starter button. Actually, when the button is pushed, it pushes a rod which pushes on a starter switch. The switch is located on the lower portion of the steering wheel housing, on the engine side.

The starter sw. resembles the "headlight dimmer sw. on the older cars".

About every 5 yrs. or so, I remove the starter switch on my 9N and spray the switch contacts with WD-40 or sutch like.

Probably the contacts inside the starter-switch case are corroded up and when you push on the starter button, the points in the switch DON't MAKE!

Bluey..... ..learn how to correctly jump yer 2N with 12v from yer pick'em-up. Jump DIRECTLY to the starter STUD, tranny in NEUTRAL. I clamp the jumper wire to the starter stud so sudden sparks don't go flyin' an' scarin' ya, then I ground to convenient draglink and starter will spin FAST. Make certain yer IGNITION is ON and tranny is in NEUTRAL. The iff'n it don't start, PROVE to me that you have sparkies that will jump a full 3/16" gap with blue-snott authority 'stedda wimpy yellowish-orangeish sparks.

Make a calibrated sparkie tester from enny ol'sparkie by bending the side-electrode out for full 3/16" gap and clamp the sparkie shell to convenient head bracket. Now turn yer ignition ON, and crank the engine while watching yer calibrated sparkie tester. For reference purposes, my eazy starting 6-volt 52-8N will jump a full 3/8" gap..... ..Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

there is no cable that runs from the 2n push button .. the push button on a 9n/2n operates a stick that operates a seperate starter switch on the back of the steering column.

post a pic of what you have..
