After many tips around and around...up and down with the harrow, LOTS of FREE rocks, and No takers.
SO....I had to get out the hand rake and do it by myself. PIKER"S!!!! :lol:
We could have had a beer party, but no one showed up!!! :(
Yesterday about 2:30 pm, I took a little break, and took these pix. Looks like maybe after 7 yrs. of livin' here, I'm finally going to get the frt. lawn in.

Since these pix were taken, I finally got the rest of the raking done. Now all that is left is, hopefully, pick up all the rock piles with Hermie the 2N, and his trusty KK dirt scoop. :roll:

Next come the grass seed, and fertilizer, then water the "P", out of it.!!!!

By the time DAN in CO gets here in AUGUST, there should be enough grass out there for HIM to mow, during his visit!!!!!

Oh..... I'll give him a beer or two, but I'll make sure he does the mowing in a SAFE manor!!!!! !!!!! ! Wouldn't want him to break.....my lawnmower.!!!!! :lol:
Have an "N" day!!

Gary :)

Hi Gary
Where in Montana are you? I have some info if you need to do more areas for grass. If you till with a rototiller it will bury most of the rocks!!!

I just got some new seeded area watered this week and I can see some green :) here in Bend Oregon.
Paul

Paul;

Thanks for thr reply. I don't think you have ever lived in my area. I am in Seeley Lake , MT., Where the rocks grow and multiply by themselves. We don't have "Natural" top soil here. I roto tilled the area I am workin' on now, about 4 yrs ago, and that is what got me in rock haven today!!! :lol:
The only way we grow grass here is to bring in about 3-4 inches of topsoil, and then rake it out flat, seed like crazy, and cover the seed, then roll it flat. Takes quite a bit of HAND rakin' to get rid of unwanted rock in the Mountains. They are always lurking about 2-3 inches under the ground cover!!!! :lol:
The only reason we roto till at all here is to break up the duff on top, so ya have some way for the grass to germinate the roots.

Roto tiller is a nice idea if ya got topsoil. BUT....thanks for thinkin' of us.

Gary :)

Well your right about not living in your area but I was in MT "Glendive", it was Big Sky Country.... Here in Bend there is more rocks than I have ever seen before; the reason I rototill here is to make the rocks smaller! Enjoy all that green, it will come one day. Paul

Actually got to work a little this week.
Yea, sold 4 or 5 this week too.

I'd got a price on the square foot sod one time but couldn't remember how much it was. Best I figured it was outta my reach anyway.
A few pounds of grass seed will do wonders. With enough lime & fertilizer you can grow grass on a rock! :lol:

Gary..... ...don't fergitt to DRAG yer soil after seeding to COVER'em expensive seeds otherwize yer gonnna bee feedin' the birdies. I used an old RAIL-ROAD tie on end of chain bridal altho yer York rake would also work. Then ROLL the soil tight so you can't see yer footprints. I used to use an old filled water heater on chain bridal. But now I have a "culta-packer". kinda like railroad wheels close stacked side-by-side on 6-ft axle. But just driving back'n'forth with tractor will kinda do the job too. ..... .Dell, BTDT got the bare spots to prove it

Gary:

Well I'd be happy to cut the grass for you when I get there in August. I'll even bring my own implement to cut it with:

Do you think it will be long enough?

Yes, but it sure beats the alternative! :wink:
What would it cost to lay sod in an area that size?

Morning jon;

Man, you got that right, not to mention the wear and tear on the old back!!

I hate layin' sod. Never was any good at it. At least 4 or 5 strips always don't make it, then ya gotta go back and replace pieces that look bad. The cost would be out of this world to have someone that knew how to really put it in, come and do it for me!!! :shock:
How's sales??? Good I hope.!!! You must be busy, I haven't heard from ya in awhile?????

I'm hoping not to have to put any more top soil down. It has 15 yds. on it now, that I put down about 4 yrs. ago. I think it will grow, with some fert. in with the seed. Top soil around here is up to $160 for a ten yrd dump!!! Fuel cost ya know.

I've been up with the OLD back pain again, since around 2 A.M.. Dam thing is drivin' me crazy. Oh well, it's hell to get old!!!!! :lol:
