I need help on a 8N,and not knowing much about
tractors I need help from the experts. My 8N will
start find, and run as long as clutch is engaged,
if I put it in gear and try to move it will blog
down and quit running.I took the drain plug out
of the carb and it was gas in the carb, however I
noticed while doing this there was gas dripping
out of the hole on the bottom of the carb which
I guess it would do if it was flooded. Why would it be flooded? Does the carb need adjusted? The
tractor ran good until this happen.Appreciate any
help,and what I might check.Thanks.

You say you have gas dripping from the hole in the bottom of the carb ? do you mean from the drain plug or do you mean from the one in the center of the bottom of the carb? the hole in the center should have a brass freeze type plug, closed permanently.

The hole in the center of the carb is the hole
it is leaking from,I screwed the drain plug out
to see if the carb was getting gas the gas came
out in a steady stream. You say the center hole
should have a brass plug,it does not.Appreiate
any other info.Is there any such thing as getting
too much gas flowing from the sediment bowl to the carb,I noticed the fuel to the sediment bowl
from tank is opened to a steady stream.Thanks.

Just to add to what Dell says. Can you push the tractor when its out of gear?? If you can push it say 5 foot its not your tranny locked in 2 gears but if you can't then it is most likely that problem as Dell said.

Arthur..... ..it aint'chur carb. (well maybe not)

Based on yer description..... ."if I put it in gear and try to move it will blog down and quit running"..... ...sounds to me like yer 8N tranny is into 2-gears at the same time ...or... sumptin' is JAMBED between yer tranny teeth. Why? 'cuz you report that you haffta keep yer clod-hoppers on yer clutch pedal while you start yer engine. This DISCONNECTS yer engine from yer tranny and guess what? when you up-pedal yer clutch, yer frozen/locked tranny KILLS yer engine. Simple, eh?

You'll haffta REMOVE yer tranny top-cover and INSPECT for worn shifter plate tangs. Watch-out for spring-loaded detent balls that go "sproing". Cover yer tranny with RAG as you lift-up yer tranny shifter knob'n'lever cover. Simple, eh? ..... ..Dell
