The attachment on my lower lift arm where the stay chains hooks broke yesterday while disking a food plot. I ended up drilling out the head of that bolt and still cannot get it out. What gives?

Also, does anyone have a pic of stabilizer bars ? Do you NOT use stay chains? I don't conceptualize how these work...Anyone have a clear picture they can post?

Thanks.

A good punch, some heat and a small chissle and you should be able to get theat bolt out.

Ditto what the others said about not using stab bars and draft equipment.. etc.

I would like to know what is the rationalization on "not" using stabilizer bars on ground engaging equipment????? The only ground engaging implement I think does not need stabilizer bars is a row crop cultivator and it has to have a rolling fin to prevent it moving side to side or everything will get plowed up when trying to cultivate. A turning plow is almost useless without stabilizer bars. Stabilizer bars are the bars that attach to the brackets and pins under the trumpet housing. Stay bars are the ones that used to be used on the tractors without position control such as the 9N/2N tractors.

The ford manual mentions middle buster or cultivator.. but not plows or discs in it's section on stab bars. At least the copy I have does.

You can't use stabilizer bars with the row crop cultivator. If you had ever tried it you would understand why. If the stablizer bars are used on the row crop cultivator and you are trying to turn left to get away from the right side of the row the cultivator will go toward the right when you turn left and the crop will be plowed up. Defeats the purpose of trying to cultivate. If the stabilizers are left off as they have to be when the front of the tractor is turned left or right the cultivator will continue to follow the row and the furrows that were created when the row crop was planted. The rolling fin also helps prevent the cultivator from moving left or right. The cultivator has to act like it was a train on rails on the back of a Ford tractor. If the cultivator and planter are set up and run right cultivating is easy. If the rows were not laid out right to begin with it is virtually impossible to cultivate with the Ford cultivator.

This I know from lots of experiance.

Thanks guys, I found a picture of them, now I see how they work. I have seen straight ones at the farm store near me, and ones with a slight bend. Will the straight ones work?

Lots of PB Blaster, heat and hammer will get the eyebolt out. As the other poster says. Don't use sway bars with draft equipment.

Eric:

Stabilizer bars hold the lift near its center position such that the stay chains will always be slack.

You should not use stabilizer bars with ground engaging implements such as plows and discs and you should not try to turn other than very gradually unless you first lift your three point disc.
