Hey guys, My uncle and I rebuilt a Ford 9n over the winter. I just plowed and disked 4 acres to be planted into corn with a dearborn two bottom plow. I just got myself a planter. Any tips on speed or row spacing.

I just planted 3 acres with a ford 9n with a blackhawk 2 row corn planter at 40 inch spacing. I ran in 2nd gear 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. My planter has 3 different settings of seed spacing, I used the closest one.

I plant at 36" spacing, which fits my cultivator. I have to flip the wheels around on the N to cultivate (wide spacing), which works fine (just have to remember to swap sides on the rears so the bars are facing the right direction).

I have an old JD four-row planter, but it's rusted up and missing chains. Drug it through the field to make furrows this year, and worked okay for that. I think I can get it loosened up and maybe $50 of chains will get'er goin' again.

I would think slow 'N steady would be the right speed for planting.

9nRowcropper,Most of the row crops planted back in the day were 38" or 40 " rows, wheels set out wide. That would depend on your planter row spacing, and if you are going to use a cultivator on it needs to be set the same as the planter.Planting speed with your 9N 2nd gear 1/2 throttle would work.
