Okay, so I ordered new front and rear tie rod ends, and the fronts arrived today. Looked at my old rods, and only one end is threaded where I can remove the old end to replace it. The other end has the rod end integral to the rod. Anyone seen one like this before?

Looks like I'll need to order new tie rod tubes, too...

Gary took care of that...

36, that answered my question. I went ahead and ordered new tubes from the YT store - don't have a big welder, and I can just bolt up the tubes and ends and be done with it.

thanks!

New long type rear ties rod ends are NA.But parts from NH dealer would cost 125.00.When a rear tie rod end was shot on a friends 8n on the left side,I measured the right tie rod tube on my 640.Same length.Called wengers and got a nice used tie rod for 30.00 shipping included. It was complete with good ends.

Cant find the original long rear tie rod ends.Ford tie rods have been a problem for years.Carpenter may be selling the long ends now.In any case a bad left tie rod on an 8N can be fixed fast by using the right tie rod from a 640.I favor used USA parts over new import parts.

36 coupe.....Carpenter is making the complete draglinks, but he won't sell just the rear tie rods. You have to buy the complete draglink. don b

You can always cut the ole one off, and slip the new one in and weld it ( it was solid after all ).. or split the tube with a grinder and thread the ID and then use a HD pipe clamp on it.

I made a draglink tube for my 951 in a similar fashion.. use thick wall conduit and some welding.. works fine.. even with a laoder attached and no power steering.

The shop manual picture shows separate ends with a tube in the middle - definitely NOT what I have on my N. A new middle section should set me up (since I already ordered new ends), so out comes the CC again!
