8n losing power

8n was running great-plowed up 3 acres, then it started to lose power and continues to do so after about 15 minutes of use. Power loss seems to be triggered by going uphill or when going over rough ground (across furrows). When power loss kicks in, it does make several quiet backfires. When I take it out of gear and idle it low for a few minutes, it runs fine for a few minutes, then it loses power again and putters along. Low idle, barely creeping along seems to work, but when I increase the throttle, it has no power and will stall unless I te it out of gear and turn down the trottle. During these power loss episodes, the throttle screw remains pointing towards the sky, notgwards me as it does when running welat high speed. It appea that something is preventing the throttle to run as normal. . I tinkered with the throttle screws, and carb adjusting screws but it didn't do any good. My mechanical ability is pretty limi but I do have the 8n manual. Any suggestions?

I have just experienced the same problem.
In my case i did not have the carburetor power fuel adjustment screw (main adjustment needle)
set right. 1- set screw 1 1/4 turns out for initial setting 2- crank tractor and let it warm
up about 5 min. or until it's at operating temp.
3 - with throttle in wide open postion adjust screw inward until motor runs smooth and at top speed. This is assuming that you have checked all filters and gas lines to make sure you have good
gas flow to carb. and check air filter to make sure it is connected and operating right.
This did the trick for me. Hope it helps you
Mark

Check your fuel flow. Perhaps a plugged screen at the tank or at the carb inlet. Hope this helps. Good luck.
