Bought Miss Grace this winter but just got her in the woods last week. It only took me an hour to get stuck. I learned that when both wheels start turning, she sinks down to the muffler very quickly.

Sven and Ollie, yah, you betcha..... .

Besides the "trees" attached to the rear tires looked like they had a cable on the front end too.

Don't feel bad.. we've all been there.

I stuck a 32hp 4wd w/diffy lock tractor a few years ago.. was a NH compact. stuck her till she was high centered and burried PAST the axles in much. took 2 hrs of digging and cribbing and a truck and a long snatch strap to get her out...

A while back someone posted a series of photos on what I thought was the cutest and easiest way to get a stuck tractor out that I had seen.

I am a bit fuzzy on details, but it involved two 2x4's or 4x4's, about 3 or 4 feet longer than the outside diameter of the rear tires.

Somehow, it seems to me it was with chains, they attached one of the boards to each wheel, with about a foot and a half or two feet sticking out each side. Seems to me they passed the chains through the slots in the wheels?

Then the tractor walked itself right out.

Does anyone remember this?

Can anyone re-post it?

I remember at the time thinking that if I had that kind of ground anywhere I was working, I'd prepare a set of those boards and chains or whatever, and keep them handy.

Thanks, Sean! in reply to Sean (TX), 05-18-2008 05:43:01
Thanks, Sean! I was pretty sure I hadn't dreamed it - I tend to dream of being chased, not stuck!

Pictures remind me of the time I was discing in "the sump" (our low spot). Floated OK as long as I was on the thick, tall green grass, but when I started back over the cut grass, broke through and down we went. Unhitched the disc--gucky, messy job--did some digging, laid down some long 2x12s I had, and got the N out. Took a couple of weeks of dry weather to get the disc out. Last time I did anything in "the sump" till summer. Angelo

Did the same thing with my 5300# JD 60, took 2 days of digging, planking and chain blocking to get it out! Danged near got the 4x4 stuck, so had to use it as a 'stump'. Waited a little longer the next year.

Had to dig under the tractor to get the wheels back to bearing weight then pulled it out with my truck.
