Generator Pulley Wobble

I recently noticed that the pulley on my 8N's generator has developed a wobble. Electrically the generator seems to work just fine. I assume the genertor bearing is worn out. Can I replace the bearing without completely removing or disassembling the generator. And what else should I look to replace?
The IT manual describes a complete overhaul, but I'd prefer not to do that if I don't have to.

Sincerely,

Rocky-OH

If you're pretty sure that it's the generator front bearing, you have no choice - the generator has to come apart to replace it. But don't be afraid - it comes apart and goes back together easily. Just have your I&T manual to hand, and keep track of any thrust washers etc which come out as you disassemble. You may need a small arbor press and suitable bolsters to remove the pulley.

If doing the front bearing, it would be false economy not to put a new rear bushing in while you're there - also service the brush assembly and clean out the accumulated crud of 50 years. You may want to inspect the commutator and consider whether it needs to be recut - at the least, undercut the segments and clear out the accumulated carbon. Do all that, and you'll likely get better output, and it will run another 50 years. Don't forget to flush out the oil-cup passages - pipe-cleaners are great for this.
