I found a 9n for sale. The serial # is 9NI5723I*. Does this number tell me it is a mid 1939. Are there many 9n fords this old still around?

What you found is a 1944 2N. The 2N models still have 9N in the serial #. 2Ns are collectable especially if they have the rare war time variants like steel wheels or magneto ing. Usually these were removed one parts became available again.

The tractor should have three forward speeds + reverse and a front mount dist. It was originally all grey. Also the rear wheels were hot riveted not bolted like 8Ns. I personally think the hood style (esp with original head lights) of the 2N is the most attractive of the old fords N series.

Good luck

Can you tell me where I can see a picture of a 2N all original? I have a 46 2N that, I was told by the seller, has original headlights. Just curious because mine dont look like the ones I see in pictures. Mine was a state owned tractor. Painted yellow...yuk. Previous couple of owners that I know of left it out in the rain uncovered and now most of the sheetmetal is rusted. It has paint on it but there are holes. I hear it is hard to find an original hood. Hopefully I can find one.

Look for a post by Tyler(MD). He has a real nice webpage with a pic of his 2n. I'd find it for you but I get zip out of the archives lately. Maybe there is a link to his page from here. Worth checking.

9N and 2N tractor serial numbers all start "9N...". After sn 99002 the model changes from 9n to 2n. Your serial number is for a 1945 2N. Check the link below to confirm.
