Is there such a thing as a 3 speed trans with high and low range? I have seen the 4 speeds but not a 3. If it is possible, what is needed to convert and how is it done? Thanks in advance.

Sherman overdrives are readily available from used parts sellers. Worth about $200/$250. I _think_ these are available with only beveled main drive gear...if you have straight cut transmission gears you'd have to be careful to get one compatible.

The second set of gears are about 40% faster. OK for a go-to-town drive, but doesn't help for the low end where you need it.

There must be an auxillary transmission added inside the clutch housing. It is a pretty involved operation.

I think that the Sherman and the Hupp etc companys that manufactured these auxillary transmissions are out of business. There are still some used ones to be had, I understand.
