I posted a few questions during the time the Board was experiencing some difficulties accepting replys,so I didn't recieve many to my problem. Here it goes again, My 2N was retropainted when my Dad bought it in 1978-79 w/8N colors (I have reversed my earlier decision and now am in the process of repainting back the dark gray while it is tore down for my engine rebuild). It is equiped with a auxillary Tranny (Sherman I think, but I don't yet know over or under or both). It had what Dell tells me was a Hobbs electrical hourmeter mounted in the left side of the hood just about directly over the tool box. It has what appears to be an original style ammeter on the left side of the dash next to the light switch (ammeter has black face and trim ring). The right side of the dash has a mechanical oil pressure gauge that does not match the look of the ammeter (chrome trim ring, & lettering style on face is different). I would like to get a Mechanical oil pressure gauge that matches the original ammeter gauge (including necc. sending unit and hardware), so that I can replace the Hobbs Hourmeter in the hood (the holes look to be the same diameter). I would then like to enlarge the hole in the right side of the dash to accomodate a proofmeter original or reproduction off an 8N where the oil pressure gauge used to be. Can I rebuild my existing Governor to run a proofmeter (drill a hole in the housing, tap for threads & mount a cable, and use a 8N rebuild kit) or do I have to buy a 8N governor that already is plumbed for the proofmeter (quite spendy) already? What kind of rebuild kit should I order for my governor, an 8N governor rebuild kit for proofmeter equipped? Can anyone give me sources to compare prices for the proofmeter unit itself? Again I would like as close to the actual syle gauge as came originally on the 8N's. I hope it will match both the replacement oil gauge (a comparison source for that is also needed), & original ammeter from my 2N. Lastly the ammeter needs some TLC any instructions for taking apart & cleaning up that old gauge similar to Bg's page on proofmeter restoration? The ammeter was working, it's just filthy inside the bezel and the outside rear housing is starting to corrode. Thanks in advance! Ron(ore)

You will need a late 8N dash to correctly mount a proofmeter as the hole needed is about 3.5".

Wouldn't it be cheaper to enlarge the existing hole to accomodate the larger proofmeter gauge? And hey thanks for the well wishes on the 4th! You kanuks are very gracious considering the way we in the USA took the best of the great white north and used it (Pamela Anderson, Yukon Jack, and SCTV!)

The pre-proofmeter dash had holes for the ammeter and oil gauges. Which hole are you talking about enlarging?
