Read the earlier posting about original color of Nseries rear rim color. Before I goof things up on my refurbish of Dads Old 2N. What color should front & rear rims be (original's modern equivalent is acceptable along with original if possible)? There is some ambiguity as to the original color of the 2N depending on the Web site being viewed: Ford gray, Battleship gray, 9N gray, Ford dark gray. What is the correct color numbers for me to purchase or tell the guy at the paint shop? Lastly was the engine the same gray as the hood/chassis? The metal seat, 3-spoke steering wheel, wing radiator cap, and wing latch to gas tank access door in hood all the same color black? Are the hubs and center caps a different color than the rims like on 8N's? Except for the emblems (what color blue background, & should lettering be black?), is entire grill the same color, & is it the same color as hood and chassis? Were the lights front and rear gray or black? Should all fasteners be painted gray? Thanks in advance, like I said looking at the other sites the specifics of my questions are sometimes in conflict with each other so I'll ask the Board! Ron(ore)

The "Originality Guide" is well worth the money. As for the colors, almost everything was gray. The steering wheel spokes, radiator cap, and winged latch were black. The front wheels are gray, rear were an unpainted galvanized steel. And I bet that the bolts and nuts that hold the hood and wheels on were not painted either.

Sounds like you need to get this book:

"Ford N Series Tractors (Originality Guide)" by Rod Beemer, Chester Peterson Jr.

$17.48 from amazon.com, or you can likely find it in large local bookstores.

It has as much detail about paint colors for N tractor components and paint numbers as you'll find written down anywhere.

Click on the link below and see the book review.

The originality book is good but by no means totally correct. I attend tractor steam and engine shows all over the country and have never occasioned to find a show that had concours judging or for that matter judging at all. Do what pleases number one first and foremost. Short way to original appearing wheels is to mix 3 parts rust oleum aluminum paint to one part smoke grey, thin slightly and spray and you will come up with an inexpensive good looking surface.
