Has anyone ever backup too fast on an 8N.....

oops..rhetorical question (the answer is obvious) I have a box blade that I often push dirt with. I know I am wearing out my clutch prematurely because I have to ride it all the time. I recently took my foot all the way off and and at full speed ( 30 mph backwards for the 8N ) I nailed a buried piece of concrete and pretzeled the lift arms.

All joking aside... is there a way to strengthen the steel? I know I can heat it up, straighten them out but what good will they be for just average use while pushing a box blade load of dirt. I also have a major complaint with the availability of new USA quality lift arms. I went to 2 stores here in SW Missouri and all they had was chinese junk metal. Poor quality. I had to use them because it was all there was, now I am back to feathering the clutch till my knee hurts.

Anybody had similar woes?

Thanks and I enjoy this board tons!!
Steve

Check out your local NAPA dealer, they have lower arms for the N's.

Steve..... ....be thankfull your lower lift arms "pretzeled" instead of breaking out your lower lift pins from the cast iron differential housing.

I was always impressed with the N-Tractor's clutch, it justs seems to takes a lot of abuse and keeps on clutching.

As neat and as great as our N-Tractors are, there are times when they might not be the "right tool for the job". I've pounded nails with a rock, and rounded bolt heads with a pair pliers because I didn't have the right tool, I was sorry later.

Just my opinion..... ....Dell

Amazing how strong they are. After all this is 50+ year old equipment built for "pulling". But you can still push some with it.
