I have an 8N,and it has been running fine until the other day. When the govenor kicks in it almost dies if I don't pull the choke out, then it smooths out and runs until the gov. kicks in again. I took the carb. apart and cleaned it up, but still does the same. The gov. seems to be working , and it starts and idles good. Any ideas? Also cleaned gas lines and screens. Thanks for any help. Ace

Ace..... ...from what you describe, why do you think your problem is still the carb? I'd seriously consider a governor problem, rebuild kits are available..... ...Dell

Dell, The gov. engages when the tractor is under a load, but wants to die untill I pull the choke. Does the gov.do anything besides give throttle to the Carb., like advance the points or distributor? Thanks for patience and advice. Ace

Ace..... ..I believe the governer is working all the time. But it can get "sticky". Don't forget you also have centrifical spark advance. The governer is also centrifical force operated too but it operates on the carb.

How-some-ever, if your tractor is wanting to die and is saved by the choke (increased gas) I'd certainly intertain the thought of changing the main jet setting, try 1/4 turn counter-clockwize.

Hope this helps..... ..Dell
