If anyone has ever tried dacron (polyesther) or anything else, instead of wire rope, to lift a front snow plow, DID IT WORK ???

Also, does anyone know a better way than cable clamps to fasten the front end of the cable to the front axle. The hardware which came with mine according to the Dearborn manual is long gone. It had some sort of threaded adjuster, and probably meant you did not have to be careful that the end of the cable did not damage your lower radiator hose or sheet metal.

Can't say that I've lifted a snow plow blade with ropes, but I have used ropes to lift things much heavier. Yes, ropes work just fine, but you have to use the right one.

Go to a marine store. Don't waste your time looking around hardware stores, ag shops or the like. They won't have it. A marine store, particularly one that caters to sailboats, will. Get some help from the clerk, to at least point you in the direction of the printed information, and make your selection.

Basically, twist ropes stretch a lot and are notional on bending. Braided ropes stretch the least and bend readily in all directions. Synthetic fibers are stretchy, natural ones are not. A braided hemp rope of the proper size is strong enough to be used to tear your tractor apart. Heck, we used to tie the aircraft carrier in place with natural fiber ropes.

You might try browsing McMaster Carr. They have all kinds of everything - literally. Their catalog is online and if you order it will be there the next day.

I haven't tried it, nor do I have a front mounted plow. However, on the surface, that sounds like a bad idea. Most synthetic ropes stretch much more than steel and don't resist abrasion, etc., nearly as well as steel. And for a given diameter, steel is much stronger. Certain plastics are not good around gasoline. Nylon for example. BE CAREFUL!. Steel cabling and connectors are very available, HomeyDepot for one has automatic garage door fixins that may work for you. Eric
