Last week I bought a 53Naa. It has a Sherman over under trans. How do you check the lube? It seems to be on the noisey side. Sounds like an old Jeep transfercase. Is it the way the gears are cut that makes it whine or is there a possible problem? It also has an Everett Trans manufactured in Los Angelos Ca. Tractor use to have a trencher on it. With trans in gear you could take a long lunch and a nap, come back and it may have moved a couple of feet. Serious tractor gears here.Have no use for the Everett Trans. Anybody interested???

For some good transmission information, see the post below titled "Too good to be true".

Is the Everett transmission also refered to as the Howard Gear? Or this another model. Where is the lever to engage this transmission located at?

The lever is on top right under the seat spring. Everett trencher is cast in the the trans hsg.

I'd be interested in that transmission. Does it also slow down the PTO? Where are you located? According to various posts, the Sherman is either lubricated when installed and stays that way or there is something about transmission fluid being pumped into it. Check the archives. The tractors that I have been around that had Shermans didn't make any different noise than a tractor without it. You might have some problems. Good luck

Sounds like an Auburn trencher that we had years ago on 3000. It is actually a separate component that inserts in the main body between the transmission housing and the rear end. Added about a foot to the length of the tractor. I live in GA so shipping that thing would be cost prohibitive. I'd keep it if you have any plans at some time in the future using a tiller or rotovator for gardening, etc.
