If it is a 3 spd. it is a 2N, not an 8N. Also, it was common to use an 8N block or engine or also an 8N combine engine when engine work was needed. If it is an 8N engine of some sort, that's a bonus. It will hog or mow fine, better on less hilly terrain.

If the engine serial number reads 8N XXXXX then it could be a block/engine replacement. Since it is a 3 speed, then it probably is a 2N.... HP is figured at different points, i.e. Drawbar HP PTO HP....Belt pulley HP...All this gets very confusing... In any case,,,, it is a good unit for mowing. I use a 5 ft. mower... and can mow in third gear, if the grass is not too high...Others use 2nd and pull a 6' finish mower...Most of the time I use 2nd,, because I let the grass grow too high...I know that this is not a good thing when the sun is burning the grass.
Happy Motoring

I forgot the HP numbers.... 9N,2N Drawbar Hp is 16.3....8N 23.2Hp.... Depending on what engine you have.... Belt Pulley = 9N,2N 23,6 and 8N 27.3 HP..
Hope this does not confuse you..
