Ok! Three srikes and you are out. That is next step the engine comes out of the '40N and onto the engine stand for dissassembly. It has been awhile since I overhauled a ford flathead last one was a flathead V-8 out of 1948 pick-up, sometime in the late '70s. Note this 9n may have not run in the last ten years, so compression test done cold. This time I put in a fresh 6-volt battery, removed all four plugs, throttle wide open, air pipe removed from carburator and I wrote the compression readings down, and added a little more oil on the wet test, hood removed so I could use a compression gauge that I like A very accurate old chrome Hastings. Results dry first number. #4 50/75, #3 30/65, #2 50/75, #1 55/65. This is with a new headgasket, and carbon/buildup removed from head and valve's. Will let you known if any more surprise's are found.

Well, that is an interesting bit of news that the tractor sat for 10 years or so without being run. Could be the rings are gummed up and are not making proper contact with the sleeves. Pour some diesel into each cylinder and let is sit for a while. You have nothing to loose..
Happy Motoring
