Someone is fakeing posts in my name.

Personally, I'd lay money that it's our dear troll JC, since the posts being faked in my name look *exactly* like his posts, and I annoyed him by not kissing up to him for trying to take over your job as moderator.

A nice example is one on page three, re "F.S.: Nice 51 8N". That is *not* me.

To the rest of you people on this board, you've probably gotten to know me by now. If a post doesn't look like the sort of thing I would say, it's probably a faked post.

I demand an immediate apology. I have never posted anything under your name and don't know how in the world you can make that accusation. This is obviously the work of someone with more computer knowledge than me. my ISP number is 207.42.55.8. Kim can track who sent the posts. Since I've been out of town all week, I don't see how this is possible.

Don't worry Nolan, we will just mention the "pond" incident, and the "mud'en at papa-inlaws", if he don't know what we're talking about then it's NOT you. ;>)

Nolan, I agree with you, and you can check the number(....) behind your posting name. Since Kim has done this there appears to be less using someone elses name. If you look at the "F.S.: Nice 51 8N", by Nolan, the number is (4.15.74.174), and this is not your number.

That is the same number that "slammed" Dell about a month ago. Been searching older pages & archives when time permits just for curiousity's sake. It'll turn up. I think the first 3 #'s are always the same, but last one will vary.

It was not JC. JC, if you do read this, I appologize, for it clearly was not you.

I had no idea that number tracings like that could be done by us. But having learned it, I went backwards until I found a vintage JC message, looked at the number, and it was not his.

Kim, since you've already taken care of the problem, should the thread be deleted?

Howdy!

One warning though: some of us send our posts from one of two seperate locations (e.g home and work) so we would have a couple of different TCP/IP address'.

Food for thought.

Joe

And if you use dialup access you'll likely get a slightly different IP address each time you go online.

This may or may not be true. The number youe see listed for each person is a TCP/IP address. This may or may not be the actual address of the PC where the person is working. It most cases it is not. In my case, I work at a very large organization and the address you see from me is actually the address of our firewall. Anyone else from my agency that posts here will display the same TCP/IP address since we all access the same port to the Internet.

I didn't read all the previous posts since I come here to escape my profession. Networking pays the bills, but my N helps keep my sanity.

My 2 cents worth..... .Tommy

That number is the unique TCP/IP number of the originating e-mail address. This number can be traced and the sender located! The fine for defamation is not cheap!
