Thought I would post the results of my gas tank sealing project. After weighing the pros and cons (that I got from the board)and after examining the tank again I decided it was either try to seal it or buy a new one.So I ordered a pint of metal etch and a quart of sealer from Hirsch auto.
I took some white marble chips(the kind like you put around flower beds)and put them in the tank and shook it all around to get the rust loose. Then I just followed the directions. It came out pretty nice, just a real thin layer coating the inside of the tank.Tried to scrape some of the over run off around the top of the tank and that stuff is tough.Of course I can't say what it will be like in a year or so,but it sure is nice not to have to stop ever twenty minutes to clean out the float bowl.
