Okay guys, here's an odd one for you. I have my old 8N and 3 point blade at one place, a WD-45 at another. No trailer or truck suitable to trail the N. The N steering is worn to the point that the wheels wobble severely at walking speed, just haven't had a chance to work on 'er and it works good enough where it is. The barnyard at the other place needs to be graded and seeded. The WD-45 has the typical A/C 2 point pickup and drawbar arrangement. How much trouble would I be getting into if I welded one of those transvers drawbar pieces on the top part of the 3 point hitch of my blade to attach the lift arms, and put a hole in the frame to connect to the drawbar of the A/C and basically ran the balde with an upside down 3 point? If this is going to be severely dangerous, please lete me know. If you have a better idea, let me know that, too, but please keep it cheap -- two kids in college! Thanks a lot.

Well, let's try and actually answer your question instead of spending you into the poorhouse.

I presume that the upper attachments are still the standard AC snap-coupler system. You can buy ready-made arms with the coupler profile on the end to lock into these, to which you can weld what you please. I don't have a WD45 parked right here to look at, but I think I'd make an upper drawbar with two of these, to lock into the couplers, and a pin rigging to catch the top link pin holes on your blade. For the lower attachment, what you suggest should work although I think I'd be inclined to make a clevis and use a locking pin so that the blade can't come unhitched from the drawbar.

What that would amount to is a blade with two hitch points, one directly above the other. If the ground is relatively flat, it should work OK, although there's not much to prevent it from tipping sideways. If that's an issue, you could add outriggers or chains from your upper drawbar. To keep it square behind the tractor, a couple of chains to the original 3-point hitch pins and hooked under the axle ends should work fine - you could adapt the standard limiter chain rigging which is sold for keeping mowers and brushhogs at the right height.

Hope this helps.

JohnTotG makes the excellent point (by e-mail) that the height difference between the hitch points on the Ford and the AC will need to be considered. The snap coupler hitch points on the AC are a foot higher than the hitch points on the Ford. So your mounts and drawbar will need to take account of that in order to be sure that the blade will reach the ground and lift as well.

I looked at a 1941 A/C once and was worried about the lack of 3 pt. I talked to a tractor equipment dealer who said he could get me a 3 pt. conversion put on it for about $600.

Rich, only solution I can come up with is one of the kids has to drop out for a quarter so you can get a trailer. Thanks, just trying to help. (also two in college). daz (Oh) 9N 25723

Central Tractor sold an attachment that allowed you to hook up three point to the two point, but I don't know what the price is...Mike
