Ron, One method used is to drill a hole in the side
of the Coil (near the Contact) and use "Wire" hi-voltage cable to connect to the contact.

The Low voltage wire also drilled through the other side but connected with a spade lug to the
contact screw (old spring cut off coil)

Hope this helps,

You can do this if you really want to, by drilling off the heads of the rivets that hold the old coil assembly together, prying the case apart, and hollowing out the guts. It's all potted in a tar-like substance. You can then access the contacts in the case and attach wires.

It's much easier, though, to just get a $2 voltage reducer (General part # RU100 or equivalent) and wire that into the coil lead. In conjunction with the existing ignition resistor, this will keep the coil voltage down to about 3.5 volts, and allows you to use the original coil. You can also buy an original-style coil wound for the 12 volt application which will fit the distributor but runs at 12 volts - these are about $30. Several of the sponsors of this site sell this style of coil.

I got my 12 volt coil for front mount distributor at my local New Holland dealer for $32. Hope this helps.
