Converted my 9n to 12v last year. It isn't hold a charge and after turning it off after it has been running for a while the battery is boiling. Any ideas on what would cause the battery to boil like this??? Thanks.

Hi Allan,
If your battery is not holding the charge and it is boiling after you stop the engine, you have a short in your electrical circuit. Take the battery clamp off and put an ampere meter between the battery terminal and the battery clamp to measure the current. This current should not be higher than 20mA!
If the battery is boiling when the engine is running, your circuit voltage is to high and you have a problem with your regulator. To check this, just take an volt meter when the engine is running and put it on the positive and negative terminal on the battery. This voltage should not be higher than 14.5 V at normal ambient temperature.
Hop this helps
Jos

Thanks for the info Jos. The battery is reading 14 V when the engine is running. I guess now is the time to rewire the electrical system. It's in pretty poor condition anyways.
Alan.
