Has anyone found that adding weight to the front wheels makes it possible to plow snow with the blade angled all the way. I want to either buy weight or buy a back blade and pull my snow as some others have suggested on this Board. We live in the snow belt, and can get large amounts in a hurry, but have to start the winter by making room for what inevitably will follow. My experience with a front blade is, you can't angle the blade to the farther angle position and still steer (even if you apply the brake on one side). The cable lifting is no big deal, but I want to get the job done as quickly as I can. I don't like the extra step of shifting into neutral, declutching, raising the blade, then shifting into reverse, etc. It gets old fast.

Peter; My experiencewith Nplowing in the winter is that I really didn't feel I needed front weight. I plow in forward with a backblade, too. If the snow is really deep I will start with a high blade and take some off the top, run it out as far as I can, then off to the side to where the accumulation will eventually , that day, be pushed waaaayyyyy out of the way at the side of the drive to leave room for the snow from the next 13 storms of winter.

I find that chains and the weight of the backblade do OK. I plow the eqivalent of a 600' drive (if you include garage and barn aprons- which you better or you don't get a vehicle out anyway). Due to the drought, I cut 4 acres of grass only 10 times this summer. Only once since July 10. I am expecting to make up the shortfall with snow this winter, so I expect to be plowing those first banks realllly waaayyyyy out! Carl in Vermont
