First of all I've got a 49 ford8n,Had a exhaust leak,so I put a new gasket in,figured I would go
ahead and have the carb rebuilt(though it ran
pretty good)after everything was reassembled I can't seem to get it to run, wants to hit every now and then but after cranking for a few seconds
gas runs out the bottom of the carb....Float stuck?.....not sure, took it back apart and everything seemed fine....question is on the 2 screws on the carb what kind of adjustment is
required on them.....how many turns do you back them out?..... thought maybe that was the problem.....help.....

thanks

What you may have done is while replacing the manifold gaskets it let some forien particles go into the combustion chamber when you tried to start it.If grit etc. gets under the valves and caused them not to close completely you won't have enough compression to start the engine. You can either take out the spark plugs and add about a table spoon of oil in each cylinder or pull it off to start it the first time. After it is started the foreign stuff will blow out and not pose a problem next time it is started.

CAUTION!! Don't let your wife pull you on the tractor! NOT!

As someone has stated before here,""90% of the carburetor problems can be found in the ignition system," (or something like that.) Make sure your ignition components are in proper condition. Bad plugs or weak spark can exacerbate a carb problem. Sometimes it's good to look at the complete picture.

Suggested starting position, prior to final adjustments, for both the large and small screws is 1 full turn out. Also, check to see if you have an air leak somewhere around your new gaskets, and make certain your choke isn't stuck open at all, or this will mess up your adjustments.
