Gentlemen, and others..... (-:
I have a 52 8n. After making a pile of dirt with
my boxblade I needed to push it (reverse). When I
start to really add pressure to the pile the tractor goes C L A N K. When I put it 1st and let the clutch out quickly it goes C L A N K. Obviously something is worn or loose. THe right rear tire will wobble when rocked back and forth while holding on to the top of the tire. I get at least 1/16 th inch play at the nut. I assume this is contributing to my C L A N K. Is it only a hub and axel or is there likely something much more serious to worry about? Any thoughts? I will buy the coffee..... .
Steve

You should try to tighten the nut if it is not all the way tight against the end of the axle. There is a lock ring that encircles the nut in the middle and it has a 90% bend on one end and the end goes into a slot in the axle to hold the nut from turning. If the nut tightens the hub and there is still some space left between the nut and the end of the axle you are lucky. Torque it with a 3/4" drive socket as tight as you can with about a 4 foot handle.

If it does not tighten then you are in for a hub and axle, bearing etc.

Thanks, I did try to fiddle with the nut and the best i can figure is that it is snug.
