What type of heater do you use on an 8N for easier starts in cold weather? Will an in-line hose heater work or is there enough room on the hose to mount it. I know the oil dip stick hearter are worthless.

One year when it was REALLY COLD, I had a friend who bought a cheap tabletop charcoal grille and placed it(full of glowing embers)under the oil pan of his Peterbilt cabover to keep the oil warm enough to allow the engine to crank. Probably not the wisest thing to do, but in an emergency, it worked well.

Never needed one on my Grandad's 8N, or on my 860. The 8N plowed snow every winter near Buffalo, NY from 1952 until 1993. I have so far only used the 860 on a 75" snow blower for 1 winter. It spent the winter under a tarp, which was a PITA because I had to keep digging it out to clear the driveway.

I have an in line hose heater in the lower hose on my 2N. It works great. This will be the third year and I have no complaints. I did cut the female plug off an old extension cord to put on the end of the heater cord to protect it when its not plugged in.

I'm a big fan of the lower radiator hose heaters, I don't have one on my "N" (yet) but have used them for years on our cars and trucks. they work pretty good.
Hope this helps.

later,dave
