I had a leaking raditor on my 8N. So, I took it to the repair shop. It had been patched and fixed, looked like a few time by previous owners, so they did not want to patch a patch. They wanted to re-core it, cost $175.00. So, just for fun I stop at the Ford place to get a price on a new one. Believe it or not, they had a 8N raditor in stock, cost $200.00. So, I bought the new one, so it comes out in the box with made in China written on it. I didn't know China bought Ford! I must say it did fit and works just like the old one only without the leak.

Bought the same new Chinese-made radiator on Monday at the rural tractor parts store in our area for $175 that was in stock, no sales tax, no shipping and it works great...The parts guy said he also sells repaired N radiators for $125 but the difference to get the new one seemed worth it.

That Case/IH bought New Holland/Ford? And John Deere is owned by the Japanese? Is nothing sacred anymore? This globalization thing is worrisome.

Did Case aquire New Holland, or was it the other way around?

Worse news is that no matter how you look at it, Ford has been out of the picture for years now, and has finally be removed as a name. There is no such thing as a Ford tractor dealer any longer. I suspect the crowing we've been able to do about dealer parts availability for our old tractors is fast coming to an end.

Maybe... maybe not. If we(consumers) keep buying parts they'll keep making them. With so many Ford still in service, we may not be that bad off. Hmmmmm.

Sounds good, but it generally doesn't work that way. There's a whole lot more Mustangs out there then N's, and Ford long ago quit stocking parts for old Mustangs. Ask a Ford dealer about Model A parts for real laughs. And those were real common cars. So were T's.

We've been lucky, in that the ag side of Ford seemed more willing to hold old parts inventories (doubt they still cast N parts, but maybe). But Ford is gone, and New Holland has yet again merged with another. With every step being a step further away from ancient Ford tractors.

A company that no longer exists...

With a half million Ns chugging away day after day, I suspect it'll take a lot more than a name change for Ford/NH/IH/Case/Whatever dealers to stop selling parts for them.

Look at it this way: how many of any particular model of NH tractor are out there? I'd guess a whole lot less than a half million.

I learned a long time ago that dollars count still count for more than the name on the sign.

If you worry about globalization, check out the link below to New Holland's historical background. Just think what that chart will look like when Case/IH are added in.

Me, I don't worry too much, 'cause I live from international trade, but I agree there are some troubling aspects to everybody adjusting to the changes which just seem to come faster and faster.

China owns the aftermarket on just about everything. And I hate to say it, but that probably includes a large part of Washington,DC as well. :o(

Couple a years ago went to buy a new pair of spurs in New Mexico cattle country, got to looking at a pair and damn if they weren't made in CHina. To me that was the ultimate downer.
