Well we survived Floyd all right. We live on high land above the flood zone. But I always thought the hurricane winds traveled with the hurricane, and didn't follow it. He's officially left the area hours ago, but the winds keep on getting stronger and stronger. It's well into darkness now, and I haven't heard any really big crashes, yet. But I'm a bit concerned about what the morning will show.

Well, goodnight.

Floyd put a tree across my drive and I am 240 miles from the coast here in the Smokies. No rain tho darn it. A chain saw and boom pole works great for clearing away the mess.

Would give a fortune for rain. Haven't seen any significant rainfall in months. Skirts us to the north and south. Went by one of the "fill ponds" on Interstate 275 that usually has 5-6' of water in it --bone dry.

Oh well.

We've suffered this Summer, too. Corn and squash were clobbered by drought and what came in, came in all at once, dropping the market price. Soybeans have at least done well because of the later planting here in Central VA. Floyd at least brought the ponds back up to normal level, and has also restored our water table, judging from the sediment in our well water this morning (grin). Also pruned all the dead/weak branches from the hardwoods around the place. Guess what I'll be doing all day Saturday? (grin)

Here in Somerset, it is the same. Water table could come up alittle more, but at least we are alot better off than we were. The garden is practicaly gone though. Afew mellons left that have been helped by the rains.
have a good day
