I have recently obtained a new wiring harness for my 8N (8N265020) and the next time a forecast for a couple of nice days shows up I want to rewire the N. As I read postings about the N electrical system and look at all the available wiring diagrams there is always a terminal block mentioned or shown. Obviously my N doesn't have one or I wouldn't be posting this. I assume it is a bakelite block with two mounting holes and two 10-32 studs for connecting the wiring lugs to. Is that correct? And is it supposed to be located behind the dash on the driver's left? I see no mounting holes whatsoever under there and want to locate the block so it is compatible with the new wiring harness Can someone advise as to where this thing goes and what it is supposed to look like. TYIA

Take a look at my website, it has a pic of the terminal block, as well as step by step instructions on how to do a 12 Volt conversion...

Good stuff! We could answer a lot of 12V questions by simply pointing folks to your page. Another great bookmark!

Yes, very nice ! That's the first pic I've seen of a 12 volt convertion on a late 8n where the alt. is on the right side. Does the alt. have any twist to it? I see that the lower bracket dose'nt sandwhich the lower boss on the alt.? Nice job !

Thanks for the positive comments!!

Nope, the alternator is rock solid. My bracket is really overbuilt, and I used a Grade 5 bolt to attach it to the bracket and then just tightened it up. It doesn't move.

Norm, the things you mentioned about the terminal block on your side mount dist. N are correct. It mounts on the dash transverse brace below and behind the amp meter. What part of WY are you in? I have been to the ghost town of Carbon near Medicine Bow and am looking for info on it as part of my family lived and died there in 1880's & 90's.

I'm located in Laramie, which I assume you went thru on your way to Carbon which is 85 miles No of Laramie on old US 30. I'll Email you (so everyone on the board doesn't have to suffer thru this with us) a couple of sources that you might use for info on Carbon. It was an old coal mining town from around 1800-1902. Early miners stayed in the mines at night to avoid being scalped in their sleep by those dastarly redskins. Not the team by the way. More and TNX for feedback

Theer are two types. On the older units with front mount dist, it serves as a reisistor to cut back coil voltage. On the newer units it is just a joining place for the wires. It mounts benind the under lid toolbox. Follow wres back from your lights, or light switch.. it should be there. last I remember (?) it was avail as a replacement item.
