Can anyone tell me if a Ford 600 is big enough to handle a Davis backhoe? He wants $2500.00 for it, don't know anything else about it except it is suppose to be in good shape. Thanks for your help!!!

I'm sure I've not seen as many tractor setups as some others, but I believe the Davis equipment, the backhoe, trencher type equipment mainly went on the later Fords with the bigger engines. the ones I have actually worked on were used on Ford 3000s and 4000s diesels. A backhoe puts a lot of strain on a tractor and can really be harmful if it is put on one that really wasn't made for it.
And that price does seem a little high. We sold the one off the 3000 for $1500 and were thrilled to get it. it was for sale for 6 months.

That is for the whole unit, tractor, backhoe and a front end blade. Does the 600 have enough power to run it?

Well it's been one there for about 40 years so it must be somewhat functional. Don't know how big a Davis is but I have Sherman hoes on 8N and Jubilee. They both dig holes but certainly not as fast as a 755. You gotta remember how old they are- none of us dig as fast as we used to.

I agree with Rick, if the unit has been together for a long time, it must be because it works. Ask the seller for the opportunity to dig a hole somewhere so you can determine if it will do what YOU want it to do. I don't see too much wrong with the price if the condition is acceptable.

Is that $2500 for just the backhoe or $2500 for the tractor with the backhoe? I bought a ford 800 from a gent who had another 800 with a loader and backhoe on it. Same tractor except for the engine as I understand. He was keeping the backhoe tractor and said he used it all the time.
