What's the wire's gauge?

Guess this ol' dog is having trouble with new tricks. Had to jump-off my newly converted 6V to 12V and put the right jumper cable clamp to the wrong battery post. Or was it the...? Never mind. The end result most visable is the melted blue plastic on the wires to the alternator and to the starter's solenoid. Can't tell the gauge. What's it likely to be? (I would call the shop but they have fallen out of my graces for the time being. My wife says I'm too embarassed to call. That's rediculous. I told her, "Not if I'm telling all the YT guys!" She says, "But they're not around here to look you in the eye." If she's so smart, I'll let her clamp the cables next time! I know what you're thinking - DON'T say it!). Now, for the less visable results, what other electrical parts should I inspect or problems I should anticipate? Is the coil likely to be OK? Many thanks! Paul B

Hey stuff happens... Use at least 10 gauge for the Altinator to battery. I take it that the wire going to the solenoid is the one from the ammeter. This wire should be the same size as the one from the altinator. (10)
Good Luck
Happy Motoring
