Is there a tiller that fits a ford 8n? If there is more than one which is a good one?

I used a 5 foot disc to breakup and mix my land prior to seeding. It's fast and goes deeper than a tiller could. A couple of passes did a fantastic job.

I borrowed the neighbors Craftsman tractor w/tiller prior to using the disc. I gave up after an hour.

If you mean a PTO powered tiller, any one designed for a Category 1 hitch will fit. But you will not be happy. Reason being that the gearing on an 8N is too high. With the PTO at rated speed (540 rpm), even in first gear, the tractor will be moving too fast. A Sherman auxiliary transmission doesn't help a lick, because it reduces the PTO speed too. The only thing that works is a Howard auxiliary transmission, which reduces the drive speed without reducing the PTO speed. Howard transmissions are slightly less rare than hen's teeth.

You could consider a rotary hoe or rotary cultivator, which is ground-powered. Dearborn made a variety of these specifically for the 8N. The action is described as "energetic" but it will still not give you the tilling action of a true rotary tiller.

Llamas is right, a rototiller does not work that well with a 8N. I have one I use, it is a older Maletti 3 foot wide and I use it after I plow my field (3 acres) and after the sod is dry I cross the furrows with my rototiller to use rather than a disc( don't own a disc) and it works well, but to till with, it goes to fast. My brother has a Ford 140 garden tractor with a rototiller on it and it works great, he has a drag bar attached to the tiller, I'm going to try to make something similar on mine to see if it would work to slow down the tractor and allow the tiller to work the soil better, probably one each side.

Any Cat.1 would work but w/out a hi-lo trans, the tractor speed is too fast at the needed RPM to keep the tiller going.
Still there are those that use them.....
