Rust in gas tank

I'm restoring a 1952 8N, the second one this year - and for this one I am using the fenders, hood, and grille from another 1952 8N. These parts came from a tractor that I have used for a couple of years. They are original and in good condition, and I have them at the sandblaster's now.

The gas tank I will be using has some rusty areas on the inside. It puts some very fine rust particles in the gas, and when I had it on the other tractor I had to install a modern in-line fuel filter (in addition to the screen in the glass bulb) to keep the carburetor jet from clogging. I don't want to do that with a finished tractor.

I removed the gas tank from the hood, and I am going to use a power washer on it, inside and out. Does anyone know if there is a commercial product that can be used to coat the inside of a gas tank that will seal the rust and keep it from getting in the gasoline? A friend told me that there is such a thing, and any information would be helpful. Thanks.

I've had real good success with the POR-15 products also. The people at Permanent Restoration also gave me simple directions with the products. Clean/degrease, use the metal prep, pour in the sealer. I highly recommend them!

Thanks to those who replied, and especially to "indy" for letting me know about that www.porstore.com web site.

I just ordered a pint of fuel tank sealer from them - $11.95 + $5. shipping, not bad.

This afternoon, I had all kinds of trouble locally trying to find this stuff. A local radiator shop owner tried to order some in for me, but that product is so flammable and hazardous that UPS and Fedex won't handle it. The kind I just ordered is nonflammable and no problem shipping, so again - thanks!

I used the kit from Eastwood for the tank on my NAA. It took longer than the couple of hours they said, but it did the job. the tank is coated now on the inside and kinda looks like the inside of a coleman cooler. being white like that helps see if anything has gotten into the gas.

J C Whitney offers at least two different products for this purpose.
