Arg! I enjoy my old N. But I've certainly got no sentimental attachment to it. I also do not enjoy the lack of live hydraulics or pto. But it is cute and fun.

So as spring arives, I find my thoughts drifting to more powerfull, heck, more usefull, tractors. It also doesn't help that I promptly found an 801 and a 3000 on e-bay for $2k and $3k respectively. It further doesn't help that the 3000 is right up the street from me. I think I'm going to simply have to go look at that one.

M 8N isn't pretty, but it runs well, works, and has that Sherman over/under. I also have a rather ragged out Wagner loader. I think I could sell it and get enough to pay for that 3000 series Ford. Might talk to him about a trade since it's a shop/dealer.

If any of you live around Westminster Maryland and think you should take advantage of my day dreaming to get an 8N with a Sherman over/under...

Thoughts? Comments? Out right flaming? I haven't actively decided I want rid of the N, just wondering if I really should. I'm not a tractor collector. It's not sentimental to me. I simply want as good a working tractor as I can get for two or three thousand dollars, and I think there are better machines then my N.

Your posts have generally been analytical and precise. I think you've answered your own question.

Once you sell a N it is never yours again, ut you also sell a small "but important" piece of yourself. Are you ready for that?

Had an 8N, loved it, Found a 601/661, love it more! If you can barely find enough work for one tractor, than sell the N. At the prices they fetch you'll probably break even or make a little extra. Had the same opportunity, sold the N, and never regreted it. It's not like I conceived my kids on the darn thing.

My grandpa's 8N is still in the family, but I'm glad I now use a '56 860 with live hydraulics and PTO to get my chores done. I suspect I could get by without the live PTO except in the winter, when I need it for the snow blower.

If you have no feelings for the N, let an other become her caretaker. She deserves it.

I know I would give up my 8N in a heartbeat if I could get a more useful tractor for an even swap. I would just make sure it was as dependable and parts were as easy to come by. I'm pretty sure I'd check out online support as well. This bunch of guys, this forum, priceless.

Cheesy, eh?

Thou Blasphemer . Repent and Bow Down and Ask Forgiveness To Your 8/N.

For all the good service She has given. For all the Lonely Nights She spent in a Cold Barn..

But if it's time to let her go , well someone else will treasure her for another 50 years..

YOU WILL MISS THE N. THE N IS A FUN TRACTOR, ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A MASSEY M50, CAUSE I KNOW IT IS A BIGGER TRACTOR, BUT I LIKE THAT N.

Myself, I don't think I will ever be able to get that grey paint out of my life forever, my blood is Ford Red.
I have a new, New Holland, (it still says Ford on it) lots of blue, but who do I kiss every morning, you've got it, my coon hound and then the 8N. The NH and I go to work at the same time while the 8N sleeps in a little longer.
Keep the N and get the other tractor too.
