Considering either a box scraper or grader blade for my 8N. Much of what I'm rearranging is near rock hard stuff. Anybody with experience willing to recommend which is the better buy and why? I need to do some grading up around my mobile home (block foundation) before it floats away.

If you need to do some serious dirt moving I suggest a Roll Over Box scraper. They cost about twice as much as a box but for cutting into dirt and moving it there is no comparison. I recently sold my almost new box and bought a RO650, about $1200. For one thing the opposing cutting edges on the bottom hinder the box scraper from making a deep cut. The additional 170# on the RO helps too. Weight your front end though as its a heavy unit. Reverse the cutter and drag for final smoothing I use mine on a Jubilee.

Hit the link below an go to Turf and Landscape and select your tool.....

Russ,
The box blade is the way to go. It has weight and scarifying teeth. The grader blade is for loose stuff like gravel and snow. If the dirt you are trying to move is hard, the grader blade will just scuff it up and move none.

I have a box scraper for my 8N and it works great. It's all you can handle with a full scraper (box) load though. It gets real light on the front end. I am in the process of installing a double action hydraulic cylinder in place of the top (three point) rod. I hope it works because if you are moving dirt (or whatever) very far, too much falls out. I use it to grade my (long) driveway and then I spread 3/4" rock on it. Try it you'll like it.

It works both ways. Pushes and pulls. Push to tilt the box back, so you don't lose the load. Pull to dump or spread. I hope this answers your question.
