Just obtained a 9N that I hope to use soon ... as soon as I get it working! Whether by previous neglect or by frustration I find that the 'one' wire from the generator crosses to the opposite side and then just 'dangle!'
I obtained the wiring diagram and it shows that the wire should route to a "Cutout Relay" and then to a terminal block.
Upon investigation I find that the wire was terminated directly from the generator to a terminal block of sorts but was pulled off.
Can anyone help me determine where this "Cutout Relay" is located and its operation?
The diagram shows no other connections to it, I assume it must operate like a voltage regulator! Is this part available on the market somewhere.
I sincerely appreciate your time and any help you might provide!
Thanks,
Ross

The cutout is a round can about 2" in dia. and about 1-3/4" tall. It is located at the base of the steering column and the generator wire should go to one side of it and then the other side should go thru the ammeter (if inductive type) or to one side of the ammeter and the other side ultimately goes on to the battery negative with the positive side of the battery connected to ground. We make a voltage regulator that replaces the cutout and on the outside they look identical so click below and you will see a picture of the device you are looking for.

The function of the cutout relay is to disconnect the generator from the battery when is is not producing charging current. It is to prevent the battery from dishcharging through the generator. There should be 2 connections to the cutout relay. One from the generator and the other side to the ammeter. Depending on what kind of ammeter you have, either inductive pickup (Original type) or a newer type with 2 terminals on it. Check the wiring diagram at n-series.
