I am trying to replace the seals and breaks on my Ford 8-N. I cant get the hub off. When I put a bearing puller on it the break foot lever and the associated connectin bar gets tight.

Does any body know how to pull the hub off so I can replace the pads and seals.

This is a working tractor and needed on the ranch. It has no breaks and is a little like planning a landing for a Cessna every time you encounter a hill.

I would sure appreciate any info anybody can give me on how to replace breaks and get the D%*& hub off.

You must release the adjuster before you will be able to get the drum off. You should not need a puller of any kind. Just remove the retaining screws if they are still in it. If they are no longer in the drum don't worry about it and just replace the drum without them.
The reason you must release the adjuster is that the drum has a groove worn into the drum from normal wear and the shoes are not able to go over it untill the adjuster is released.
A flat screw driver is all the is needed to turn the star shaped adjusting wheel that is accessable through the slot in the backing plate.

Did ya take the 3 or 4 big screws off that are holding the hub on?

Try adjusting your brake shoes way in. You could have badly worn and grooved drums.

Sorry, gotta ask. Did you take the big nut off the end of the axle? I'm having trouble visualizing what could be your problem as my hub just hand pulls off. Maybe more description would help us help you. Steve (Iowa)
