Stupid Me...

It was a nice warm day yesterday in upstate New York so I decided to take the kids for a ride on my 1947 Ford 8N. I was in first gear going slowly down an incline when suddenly the shifter popped out of gear... boy did she pick up speed in a hurry... I spent the next 20 seconds jumping up and down on the brakes... all it would do is grind when I tried to put her back in gear... seeing a dead end ahead I was able to slow her down just enough to make a sharp right turn into a field barely missing a fence... although the kids thought the ride was great I certainly learned my leason... the hard way!

Russ, I'll bet the ole heart was a pumping with that
rush of adrenalin. Glad to hear everyone is safe
and sound. You forgot to mention what device you
were pulling with the tractor? Or were the kids
standing on the floorboards leaning upon the fenders? These wonderful tractors do have their
flaws and you pointed out 2 of them in a big way!
