Thanks for the ammeter info-I hooked it up and it works great. One more question. What should the optimal amperage be if everything is at peak condition? I'm running about 10-12 amps on the new meter? Thanks again.

Generally you want the voltage to cut out about 1 volt above normal battery range. So on a 6-volt system 7-8 volts would be plenty. Unfortunately, the 9/2N system doesn't have a true voltage regulator, using a cut-out instead. John Regan makes a VR that looks like the old round cut-out, Check it out at the link below

That is a good charge rate for the generator with the cut out.

What you will have to do is watch the water level in the battery to make sure it does not evaporate out too fast. if it does you will have to adjust the third brush in the generator to reduce the output of the generator. It the tractor is used continously for as much as 4 or 5 hours at a time the rate may have to be adjusted down but if it only run for a few minutes at a time you might even want to turn the adjusting screw on the generator to increase the amount of charge.

This system does not have a voltage regulator. You have to be the regulator yourself.
