I was mucking out the corral with the drag blade when the dang thing just up and died--No firing when I attempted to restart--stone cold.
Started with ignition--Lots of fire to plugs--Coil would supply enough voltage to draw a 1/2 in arc from coil wire to ground. Replaced points, rotor, cap and plugs to be ready for the cold weather. Cleaned strainers at cutoff valve and at carb elbow and installed an in-line filter while I was at it. Next removed Marvel Schebler TSX 241 carb, carefully removed the main adj needle and the idle adj needle and removed top of carb. A little debris in bowl but no dead mice. Cleaned it out, reassembled and reinstalled on the 8N and opened fuel cutoff. While cleaning up, noticed quite a bit of gas leaking from the carb and when I loosened the air inlet from the air cleaner at least a cup of gas ran out on the ground.
Wife hasn't complained about parts left on dinner table or picked up in vacuum cleaner, but could I have dropped something while I was being so careful??? Any ideas?? Help appreciated
By the way it didn't start after all that work, either.

TNX for suggestions. Removed carb(again) and disaassembled it(again) Checked to see that nothing was out of alignment i.e. the float. Reassembled to point four machine screws on top were about finger tight and wiggled the top around to "seat" everything correctly, tightened everything down reinstalled, lightly tapped carb with a mallet, turned on gas, hit the starter and it fired right up. ????? ??
Who knows TNX again

Norm

I have the same problem with my Oliver 550.
I rebuilt the carb. (with a new needle and seat) and the carb still floods out (gas running out of the front of the carb. The only thing left for me to try is to adjust the float (it is to spec. now) until it shuts off the gas flow. Hopefully that will fix it and I will be able to get it running again. When you find a solution please post it so I know how to fix mine...
Thank you

Try tapping the carb. with a hammer before you try to start it. That should free up the float if it is sticking.
