Should the plow shear lay flat on the ground or should the point touch the ground first? Anything else you can tell me about plowing would be of help.

thanks again

The plow share should sit flat with the tractor on level ground. You adjust the right side leveling arm so the plow tilts to the left when opening a land. Once you have a furrow, set the leveling arm back to the level mark, drop the right front wheel in the furrow and have at it. If you have an 8N, set the position control lever horizontal for draft control. This is predicated on your hydraulic/draft control system being adjusted and operating correctly. If the top link is adjusted correctly the plow will cut without nose-diving or riding up out of the ground. Your plow also needs to be in good shape-share, shin, moldboard.
You can get a brochure on plowing with an N from N-newsletter or there is a section in the operator's manual. If you know any local farmers, ask them how they do it. Everybody has a little different slant on opening lands, head furrows, dead furrows, plowing patterns and techniques.
