A couple of weeks ago I was reading a post on repairing cracks in the hard rubber covering on the N steering wheels. Mine had 17 cracks around the circumference but no material had dropped out, so to prevent more damage this winter I filled all the cracks with JBWeld and filed down the excess. Looks super now. The post mentioned using a paint to preserve the original rubber material and to smooth the wheel out.For the life of me I can't find that post again. Might have been in archives but can't locate it. Any paint you use I assume should be UV resistant and chip resistant too. That poor wheel is in an unfriendly environment. Anyone recall the post or have a suggestion as to the type of paint to use???? Should it be brush on, spray on, dip or what??? TNX in advance from 7500 ft elevation where the UV is really intense and the winters are cold--

I've been spraying my steering wheel with Plasti-Dip tool handle coating as an experiment. It's slowly starting to fill the cracks and looks pretty good, except it has a matte finish. It also has good grip. I think I'll try spraying some liquid electrical tape with my airbrush to se if I can replicate the glossy hard rubber look.

I think epoxy paint will hold up OK. It is tough as nails and is resists stuff like oil gas and what ever. I don't know about UV resistance but it resists everything else! Check with the local paint store, they'll know. If UV is that bad make sure you wear a hat:)
