Can anyone give me some hints on removing the lift cover without breaking something. I know these things are supposed to be heavy, but I can't get it to budge. I've released the control fork and still can't break the seal? Everything from the control spring back has already been removed. Yes, I did remove the cap screws. Am I missing something? Does this job require dynamite? As always, thanks in advance.

Get your self a long bar of at least 5 or 6 feet long and put one end under the lift arm and the push down on the differential housing for a pivot point. It will come loose.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER force it. Get a longer pry bar. It takes less force on a longer lever to flip it off the tractor, across the barn and land on the work bench.

Thanks gentelman,

I was tempted to do some of the things you said not to, glad I didn't. I will keep working on it and probably holler when I finally get it. Sometimes you just need to know your not the only one having a problem. Happy Thanksgiving!

I ended up using a well placed pry bar under the lift arm. I also had wifey rest her hands on the top of cover to prevent it from poping up and dropping down. I didn't want the control rod to hit something on the way back down. Eric

Yep, they will stick down tight.

RESIST the urge to try and split the joint with a chisel.

Soak it with the penetrating goop that you favor. Then start walloping it with a rubber mallet or dead-blow hammer. There are no dowels, pins or other fasteners that key the two together. You can wallop upwards on the underside of the lift arms. Wallop it all around the joint, on top, along the sides, wherever you can get to it. Dob't whack on the top link shaft.

Usually, you'll whack it in just the right spot and the whole joint will pop loose at once.

Make sure that you have unhooked the control linkage from the control valve on the pump before you go to moving it.

llater,

llamas
