There's a good-looking Jubilee up for auction on e-bay, it's item #203688340 in the Miscellaneous/Equipment/Farm category. A 6' bush hog and a disker are included. It's at the initial price of $2500 now, and there have been no bids yet. No way to tell if there is a reserve price without bidding. The auction ends on 11/29, and there is a photo.

I was tempted to bid on this, but it's not a good time for me to buy another tractor. Also, I don't want to drive to Florida with a trailer right now.

Maybe someone else here will be interested. It sure looks good in the photo and description.

When I first looked at the tractor and read the printed words, I believed it was a Jubilee. Although, the obvious differences from my Jubilee in the garage were the different hood and tires & rims. But, since it has created so many postings I had to go back and look again. I see that the intake/exhaust manifold are different, the air intake from the air cleaner is different. I guess we sometimes don't pay attention as well as we should. I shall wipe the egg from my face and look closer next time. But, I would still like to have it for the price. California is even further from Florida.

From the photo I wondered about the originality of that tractor. It looks good in the picture, but the tires seem too wide and fat and I wondered whether the rims could be the original sizes. The grille is covered by that brush guard, so it's hard to see the front of the tractor - and I don't know where the controls should be on a Jubilee anyway.

I don't think "Jubilee" is mentioned in the description, just "1953 Ford Tractor". Maybe it has a 1953 engine serial number, and the rest of the tractor is cobbled together from whatever other models.

That's why guys like me need help from someone who is knowledgable when looking at something like this. I feel pretty comfortable with 8N's now, but I could easily go wrong if I tried to buy a Ford model I'm not familiar with.

I sent the seller an email asking him to look at Dan's Vintage Ford Tractor Resource page, verify for sure the model & serial numbers and send them to me. So far, no response.

I sdaw the advertised Jubilee on EBAY last week and looking at it carefully don't think that it's a Jubilee, but a later numbered series. Look at the fenders, the rear hubs don't seem to have the bolt-on nuts to shafts-but look like the one piece off the 600+, the clutch pedal setup looks like it's off the numbered ones where you push it forwatd - vs down on the NAA & N's, and the grill. It's a nice looking tractor - but I don't think a Jubilee. My comments

I agree I don't think it is a Jubilee either, however as you know most people don't know the difference. When I bought my 801 the guy advertised it as a 9N, when I told him the difference it didn't mean anything to him , two weeks later advertised again as a 9N. I've also seen people post here on the N board with a 54 8N etc. Being almost 50 years old it's hard to find anything that hasn't been modified at one time or another. My opinion.

I found a Select-O-Speed 901 painted grey and blue for sale for $2200. Seller called it a Golden Jubilee cause it had gold paint under the grey and blue. It was really one of the first Gold SOS tractors. Probably a valuable collector item for someone. Too much headache for me. Probably still available if anyone is interested.

..I think it's important to maintain originality on these old tractors. At least then a buyer might know with some degree of confidence what he was buying. The grille on this monster looks like an 800 series as do the fenders. I'd guess Powermaster. You sure can't tell anything by the paint job.

We were wondering if your second paint job attempt was as successful as the first ??

That's right, it's Friday night and I've already tapped into a 12 pack of Coors Light- "Belch"

So thoughtful of you to ask...maybe you'd better back off of the Coors. It tends to make you surly.

My paint job is quite nice, thank you. I just haven't had time to finish blasting and painting the rest of it due to having to work and having to contend with continuing hurricane damage repairs around the place here. I also have to wait for good weather, since I have a totally solar-heated and lighted shop(no walls or ceiling, either). The only thing "wrong" with my paint job is that "I" wasn't satisfied initially with the color. Of course, I am a lot harder to please than most folks.

Well shoot, Bob. No wonder you had trouble hooking up a 3-phase welder. Don't think they run off solar, do they? Tough to plug those suckers into imaginary walls, what?

Maybe tomorrow when my "buzz" from the Coors Light" wears off, I'll look up the word "Surly"(-:

If I were you, I think I would put the 8n on the back burner till you can build a "Real" Barn, shop or garage !, Outside is no place to "Restore" a classic 8n like yours ! You need to build a Shop like I did, 30'x50'x10'high pole barn, heated concrete floor (of my own design), fully insulated, running water,telephone,100amp service, floor drain, and I even have door openers on my 2-9'x8' overhead doors !

With a shop like this you can do a real nice Job on your 8n and you won't have any bugs doing the back stroke in your nice "Correct " paint !

If your ever in N.Y., stop by, I'll treat you to a ice cold coors light and show ya my "Shop" with my 8n inside it !

later (surly) dave

Problem is...$$$$ I have a plan for a 24 x 36 x 10 pole barn, but I'm only about $8,000 short of funds. I'm going lumber shopping tomorrow, to see how much I can but for a Dollar-three-eighty.
That's what makes it fun. Gee...Anybody can do it in a heated shop and disposable income. Real N-thusiasts welcome hardships and adversity.

In my pic to the left you'll see my "Old" shop, which is nothing more than a enclosed carport 16'x20', this is where I rebuilt my my 50 8n, so,hardships I can understand ! After that, I saved every nickle and dime I got get my hands on for my real "Shop"

As far as disposable income ?, none here, drive'n a payloader for a liveing at a salvage yard, and haveing 4 kids (all boys), well, around here, money last about as long as a 12 pack of Coors light ! (-:

Surly yours,dave#1

I made a video of the sandblast and painting, but ya know...there really ain't much to see. I have an exposed roll of 35 mm waiting to take to the 1-hour photo place when I get the rest of next roll shot. I hate to got to town for one roll of film. As soon as I get the rolls developed, I'll scan and post. Then y'all can break out the Coors light and get real surly. ;^)

After 40+ years, originality is a little hard to come by. If I were looking at the tractor in person it would be a simple matter of looking for the model and serial numbers to know exactly what it is. Buying one based on a photo on a computer screen is a little scary. No telling what's under that pretty paint. Even so; $2500 (or whatever the bid is up to now) seems cheap, especially if it's a 600/601/800/801. For a working tractor that would make it worth more $ than a Jubilee in my book. Might even luck out and get a live pto! Best not to trust to luck, however, email the seller and ASK!

No doubt it's a good deal, and I'd probably even be interested in it if it wasn't on ebay, that is if I could lay eyeball on it in person. Originality is hard to come by. That's why it has value.

Hey Sam, isn't that a nice looking tractor. I'd buy it in a minute if I could. I can't believe the price. You can email them and they usually will tell you if there is a reserve on it. I think they need to list that in the beginning though. I keep drooling over it.

Usually if there is a reserve it will say "reserve not yet met" next to the current bid or it will say "reserve met". What the reserve is wouldn't be revealed for obvious reasons. I've also looked at that photo more than once but like everyone else, the month before Christmas is not a good time to buy another tractor and Florida is DEFINITELY too far to go to pick it up. I wonder about the grille. Is that original? For some reason it says "601" to me. Hard to tell behind that brush guard.

You are correct, Jim...All reserve auctions on E-bay are clearly marked as reserve. Some sellers will reveal the reserve if asked, others will not. Often the reserve is merely to protect against selling a valuable item for an unacceptably low price due to an E-bay outage or some other internet glitch. The tractor in Fla. is certainly a nice deal at $2500, it will probably go higher before the auction is over..it is tempting indeed, but Virginia is still quite a ways from Florida.... BG is closer and has access to large trucks..... :-)

Interesting item you're selling there. I'm looking for a vintage USN item. I'll email you to see if perchance you're hoarding it.

Just looked in on the Jubilee auction again. There is now a bidder at $2500. Bidding ends on the 29th I think. Appears to be no reserve so whoever is left standing when the dust settles will have a good looking tractor. Can't believe it would go so cheap with a bush hog....

Just took a glance at that "JUBILEE". Looks to me that that guy is off about ten years or more in time. Hood is a 3000-4000 series from about 1963 or later. My guess is that is a 4000 which is similar to the 800-801 series.
